Highlights: H.E.R. & Samm Henshaw @ Lincoln Center (39 Photos)

Grammy award-winner H.E.R. and UK soul singer Samm Henshaw teamed up with MTV & Save The Music for an intimate night of great live music.

As part of MTV Music Month and the 2019 MTV VMAs, Save the Music—a non-profit organization that has launched over 2,000 music programs within schools across the country—joined forces with two-time Grammy Award–winner H.E.R for an intimate performance in Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center. The outdoor venue was the perfect location for the intimate performance, complete with a low-lit courtyard and seats for nearly every fan in attendance.

South-London soul singer Samm Henshaw opened the show, bursting with expression as he crooned on stage with his upbeat and gospel-inspired songs. He took fans “to church,” having them sing call-and-response back and forth with him as a pre-cursor to his current hit single, and it was a special musical moment with a musically-inclined crowd that was able to do everything Henshaw asked, bringing his gospel sound back to its roots before introducing a young choir to help him sing “Church” on-stage.

After Henshaw, H.E.R. took the stage and captivated the crowd by showing off her endless versatility as she sang, played piano, bass guitar, and drums throughout her first three songs without missing a beat. H.E.R. is truly poised to be one of the iconic artists of this musical generation, on a similar path to greatness as her R&B predecessors Mary J. Blige and Alicia Keys in the early 2000’s. She’s got the personality and the talent to take her all over the globe and to continue to dominate her genre, and of course, always looks the part.

MTV President John Sykes began the Save The Music philanthropy program in 1997, and alumni ambassadors include John Legend, Beyoncé, Ne-Yo, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, John Mayer, and Lupe Fiasco, among others.
